Spring 2009 - Conor's Lacrosse Portrait
This is a shot of my son, Conor, from the spring. The purpose of it was to create an image of him that the typical mass-sports portrait photographer would not take. Conor wanted a “threatening” photo. He wanted to look tough. He liked the images that he’d seen on David Hobby’s Strobist site and the strobist feed on flickr.
The set-up was simple – shot in my basement, a black sheet on the wall, two speed-lights aimed from behind Conor’s head towards the camera, a bounce card in front of him for fill.
No studio necessary! Some simple lighting and a very effective look was achieved.
